In late nineteenth century New York, Father, who demands control, likes to think his household runs his way, but finds himself constantly befuddled as to how his wife seems to truly call the shots. His eldest son is discovering girls and the art of door-to-door sales, while his parents always seem to find themselves in search of a new maid.  When it is discovered that Father is not baptized, everyone insists that he must, immediatly. Get re-acquainted with "the greatest dramatic hit of modern times," based on Clarence Day's novel that became a hit 1947 film starring Elizabeth Taylor.
